Hero's Trip
The Hero's Journey is the template upon which most successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon. In fact, ALL of the Showmanship movies we have deconstructed are based on this template.
Understanding this template is really a priority for story or simply screenwriters.
The Hero's Journey:
a) Attempts to tap into unconscious expectations the audience has regarding exactly what a story is and how it should be told.
b) Gives the contributor more structural elements than simply 3 or 4 acts, plot points, mid point and so forth.
c) Interpreted metaphorically, laterally and symbolically, allows an infinite number of varied stories to get created.
What is FADE IN?
It's actually very simple.
FADE IN is just establishing context.
In A beautiful Mind (Academy Award Victorious Best Film, 2001), the initial text communicates to us we are in Princeton and the very first sequence extols the natural beauty of mathematics.
In Elizabethtown (2005), the initial image is that in shoes being recalled - which relates directly to Drew's Call to Excursion.
In Groundhog Day (1993), thevery first thing we see is atmosphere - because Phil is a weatherman.
In Silence of the Lambs (Academy Award Champ Best Film, 1991), one thing we see is Starling dealing with the FBI assault system.
